Export value increases 56% during first quarter of 2011
First quarter 2011 export statistics show that the value of exports of salmon from the Faroe Islands is up 56% in value and 33% in volume compared with the same quarter in 2010.
The statistics also reveal that demand from the US continues to increase. The percentage of salmon from the Faroe Islands going to the US market has increased from 25,9%, in 2010, to 30,2% in the first quarter of 2011.
Arni Olsen, Project Manager for Salmon from the Faroe Islands stats: “It is clear that salmon from the Faroe Islands is catering to the top end of the US market, to discerning customers who only want the best salmon and it appears that the word is spreading in the US about the superior quality of salmon from the Faroe Islands. We are building a strong brand in the US solely based on the quality of our salmon, NOT by using millions of dollars on marketing, that is very exciting.”
Olsen says that “another exciting market showing very strong growth is China.” A big increase in demand from China has ballooned China from being the 20th biggest market for salmon from the Faroe Islands in 2010 to the 6th position in the first quarter of 2011.
